WELCOME TO THE GRIFFIN PARENT ASSOCIATION (GPA)
WE ARE A GROUP OF PARENTS AND STAFF WHO ARE COMMITTED TO CREATING A FUN, VIBRANT COMMUNITY AT smrs AND TO PROVIDING WHAT OUR STUDENTS NEED TO THRIVE AND GROW.
WELCOME TO THE SAINT MARGARET REGIONAL SCHOOL GRIFFIN PARENTS ASSOCIATION (GPA)!!
If you are a parent at SMRS then you are automatically a member of the GPA. There are so many wonderful events that the GPA helps to coordinate each year for our students and families. We would love to continue hosting these events and to even add new events that any of you may imagine.
Following is a list of events that we have done in the past with a description of each one. We hope by being informed of our annual events, you will feel welcome to join us in the fun!
Back to School night: Parents or guardians meet at the school at the beginning of the school year for a brief meeting with the principal and then go to their child’s/children’s homeroom to meet the teachers and find out a little about what will be happening in class during the year. Middle School parents go to each of their child’s teachers in 15 minute increments to learn about their classes. General questions are answered by staff on this night, but any detailed information about your specific child should be discussed during a conference that you may set up with the teacher on that night.
Golf Tournament: a Shot gun set up Golf Tournament open to the community with prizes for holes in one, closest to the hole etc. followed by dinner and (possibly) an auction.
Halloween Party: a party for SMRS students and their immediate families only held at the school with games for younger children, food and baked goods, a haunted house, activities and trick or treating.
Craft Fair: a holiday craft fair held at the school and open to the community at large. Vendors fill the gym and hallways and there is food and treats, a bake shop, face painting and crafts for children, wreaths for sale, various raffles and our choir comes in the afternoon to sing.
Breakfast with Santa: SMRS students and their families have “breakfast for dinner” with Santa. Pancakes and sausages as well as danish, coffee cake, fruit and hot drinks are served. Santa is available for pictures and children can color or read at an activity table.
Auction: a silent auction held off site at an event hall with a buffet meal, Silent Auction, Chinese Raffle and live auction open to SMRS parents, alumni and friends. This is not open to current SMRS students.
Easter Egg Hunt: held on the lawn of the St. Margaret Parish, children of all ages hunt for Easter eggs.
5/10K race: held on the Canal, this event is open to the public. Food is served, children can get their face painted and play with friends in Buzzards Bay Park. A DJ adds fun to the event and prizes for our race winners are handed out.
Teacher Appreciation Day/Week: GPA parents plan themed lunches and other treats for SMRS teachers and staff.
Field Day: SMRS students, teachers and parent volunteers come together for a day of fun and games either at the school, Community Building or Buzzards Bay Park. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your child, his/her classmates and the teachers, and is a wonderful way to meet other parents.
Social Committee: a fairly new committee in our GPA, the volunteers in this group help organize Griffin Gatherings, Mezza Luna Griffin Gatherings, Beer/Wine tastings, Family Game Nights, Pizza and/or Ice Cream Socials, Coffee Social, Alumni Events, etc.
the fruits of our labor
Our GPA organizes various events throughout the year from large fundraisers to small, family friendly gatherings. Everything we do is for the enjoyment of our families and help to create a close-knit community.
